This is a 1960 French Mid-Century men’s tailoring lithograph for the man who enjoys the sport of riding horses. It is original to the date and NOT a recent reproduction print. It was from a tailoring atelier who specialized in sporting attire. The gentlemen equestrians are dressed in the ultimate of of riding fashion in their riding jackets, jodhpurs, vests, and riding hat. Note the signature of the illustrator and the rear view of the jacket. Perfect gift for the man who loves his horse. This image is in excellent condition. Measures 10.5 x 14 inches.

Beautifully matted in a rich maroon/brown fabric and framed in gold, the scenes are of the Italian countryside and engraved by Richard Earlom (1742-1822).

Claude Lorrain, also known as Claude Gellee, was a French artist who spent most of his life living in Italy during the Romantic period of art. He was a leading artist in the Italian school of landscape painting. Lorrain often attributed his inspirations to classical concepts of Rome’s countryside.

Very good condition, displays well. Print is free of holes, rips, tears or creases. Lays flat, the matte is quite nice. Some very minor ‘lines’ in the print seen at close range, some moderate residue or spots showing on the inside of glass (see 7th photo). One small scratch in the glass, upper left-hand corner (see 8th photo). In a few spots the frame shows light signs of age and minor scratches, rather subtle. Makes a very nice appearance and ready to hang. See photos for the best description.

This is a set of 2 French antique decorative lithographs that date to 1900. They are pastoral landscape scenes that came from an unbound Journal de la Decoration album. This album showcased a variety of lithograph styles showing furniture, wallpaper, textiles, ceramics, and landscaping trends for decorative purposes. This set are designs by Jul Menzel (signature in lower left and noted in text on the top of the lithograph). Great for garden room, home entry, home office. They have clean vivid color and would make wonderful wall décor. They have classical references with superb clarity and rich quality. Image size is 7 x 10.5 and full lithograph plate is 9.5 x 13.75 inches. Pristine, clean, crisp condition.

John Gallucci Italian/American 1918- 2009. A beautiful beach scene from a rustic stretch of beach. Sailing boats, tents, and shanty. A scene from the early 20th century. Well made and printed as 6/99 and dated 33 signed Gallucci. The size is 17.75″ and 14″ tall. The image is 6″ by 3.75″. Matted and framed with glass.

Pietro Andrea Mattioli, a Renaissance physician and botanist, was born Mar. 23, 1501. In 1544, Mattioli published a translation with commentary of an ancient text, De materia medica, by the Greek physician Dioscorides. This was basically a book of medical botany, describing about 500 plants and indicating their use for the physician.

The first edition of Mattioli’s celebrated commentary on Dioscorides’ De materia medica – the most significant botanical book from antiquity and the most authoritative source on medical botany during the Renaissance – first appeared in the Italian language in Venice in 1544 as an unillustrated edition titled Di Pedacio Dioscoride Anazarbeo Libri cinque della historia et materia medicinale. The publishing initiative was met with immediate success, and unauthorised editions soon appeared, including that of 1549, printed in Mantua. The event led Mattioli to produce an expanded Latin edition of his work, which was issued in 1554 by the Venetian printer Vincenzo Valgrisi and included new information on herbs and plants, along with the first appearance of small woodcuts that would assist in the reading and studying of the text.

Numbered lower right XIV/XV alongside the printer’s embossed paper mark “Houston”, for Houston Fine Art Press. Framed in a deep acrylic frame with smoked acrylic sides. Included with the work is a certificate of authenticity from RC Gorman Navajo Gallery.
