A fantastic piece of artwork. Hand painted Japanese kite by famed kite painter Saburo Imai, this is an example shown by the Shirone Kite Association for a demonstration in Seattle in 1979. Beautiful colors and bold expressions for the famous kite fights in Shirone.

Belgian 1958 World’s Fair Trivia: Expo 58 was the eleventh world’s fair hosted by Belgium, and the fifth in Brussels. Nearly 15,000 workers spent three years building the 2 km2 (490 acres) site where many of the buildings were re-used from the 1935 World’s Fair (which had been held on the same fairgrounds).

The exhibition attracted 41.5 million visitors, making Expo 58 the second largest World’s Fair after the 1900 Exposition Universelle et Internationale de Paris, which had attracted 48 million visitors.

About the Belgian 1935 World’s Fair: “Officially sanctioned by the Bureau International des Expositions, twenty-five countries officially participated and a further five were unofficially represented. The theme was colonisation, on the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the Congo Free State.

The exhibition attracted some twenty million visitors. The Palais des Expositions, and at least three other of the 1935 structures, were re-used for the 1958 Brussels World’s Fair which was held at the same site in 1958.” (wikipedia)

We recently received this spectacular poster featuring an advertisement for rolling paper featuring a very handsome bull (the brand is, after all, called Toro). Linen-backed and in lovely condition (there are some residual tape marks on the left margin, please see photos), it is beautiful and ready to frame.

PALM BEACH ESTATE FIND!! Rare 1981 Frank Fontana gallery poster from the Jane Corbin Gallery in Toronto. Fontana is an early pioneer of color photography whose style was highly influenced by Abstract Expressionism and Minimalism, Mark Rothko, Barnett Newman and Ed Reinhardt. Fontana’s work with its focus on graphic form and color was quite different from the classical black-and-white art photography that was predominant at that time. This poster is framed in a typical silver metal gallery style frame of the period and measures 17” wide x 32” high. Condition of both poster and frame appear to be good+ for their age. “Dior Eau Sauvage” by Rene Gruau for Christian Dior is a vintage poster advertising men’s cologne. “Dior Eau Sauvage” depicts a male figure in a modest pose holding a bottle of cologne. Christian Dior emphasizes the Dior cologne by highlighting the male figure on a black background and a red bar.

“Legeres Comme Une Gazelle” by Robys (Robert Wolff) is a framed vintage poster. “Legeres Comme Une Gazelle” is a 1930s French advertisement which translates to “Light like a Gazelle”. The poster is signed on the bottom left corner.
