Antique Hb Quimper Scalloped Serving Bowl

Vintage 1920-1940, HB Faience of Quimper, France hand painted scalloped edge Serving Bowl. This fluted Art Deco period signed and numbered bowl has lovely traditional Quimper french blue, rose red, forest green and yellow painted botanical patterns on a thick cream background with the distinctive man figure in a Breton hat in the center. This bowl measures 8 1/2″ in diameter and 3″ high. “HB Quimper 965 PT” mark painted in black on the bottom. [Quimper is a town in Brittany, the northwest area of France, where pottery has been produced since the 15th century. In the 1870s, HB started producing the style of painting used in this bowl – specifically the Breton man and woman figures that the dishes are famous for – and proliferated in the largest and last 2 remaining producers in the area through the addition of the work of a number of artists – HB and Henriot. In the 1970s, due to economic challenges the 2 companies merged and through ownership and business strategy changes, still produce tableware today in Quimper.] This classic example of vintage Quimper fiance makes a lovely serving piece or addition to a table vignette in the kitchen, dining room or in an ‘alfresco’ arrangement.
