Museum worthy piece of Fashion History
Extremely rare Vivienne Westwood FW1993 Suit! The signature look of this legendary Collection! Stunning three piece suit: shirt pants and belt. The shirt (or jacket) has the most amazing dramatic sleeves! Ballon sleeves/mutton sleeves and stunning extraordinairy construction. It can be worn open like a jacket or wrapped and tied with the fitting belt. The shirt has no closure. Shirt and belt work also worn as a dress. The slacks are extremely well tailored: high fitted waist and wide legs- I think this is a tyoicl 1930s/1940s style. Very elegant. On the fitting belt as well as on one leg is a large embroidered Vivienne Westwood Orb. Eevrything is seamed with a beautiful gold coloured chain cord. This look is so glamorous, one of Vivienne‘s great Signature Pieces!
This truly is wearable Art. Extremely rare collectors piece.

About the Collection
Vivienne Westwood’s Fall/Winter 1993 collection, aptly named “Anglomania,” stands as a monumental testament to her unique ability to blend historical references with contemporary fashion. This collection is a revolutionary dialogue between the past and present, showcasing Westwood’s unparalleled craftsmanship and her rebellious spirit. The collection featured tartan fabrics, a nod to her punk roots and a recurring motif in her work, juxtaposed with the opulent silhouettes of 18th-century English fashion. This anachronistic blend was both a homage and a challenge to traditional British attire, making a bold statement about the fluidity of fashion and identity.
Tartan, with its deep roots in Scottish heritage, is traditionally associated with specific clans and regions, carrying a strong sense of identity and belonging. Westwood’s use of tartan was revolutionary; she manipulated the fabric in unconventional ways, integrating it into avant-garde designs that juxtaposed historical references with modern, edgy elements.
By incorporating tartan into her collections, Westwood not only paid homage to British history and culture but also subverted traditional notions of fashion and class. Her innovative use of this fabric challenged the status quo, making a bold statement about identity, heritage, and the power of fashion as a form of expression and cultural commentary. Through her work with tartan, Westwood demonstrated that fashion could be both a reflection of the past and a vehicle for new, revolutionary ideas and identities.
