Vintage Design
This rare pair of sideboards/ chests of drawers was designed by the Swedish designer Axel Larsson. They were produced by SMF Svenska Möbelfabriken in Bodafors, Sweden in the 1940s. The pieces are marked with the manufacturer’s company plate. The design is marked by the elegant front composed of four pull out drawers and two single doors in a striking symmetrical composition. The front is executed in veneered elm wood, with the handles in a solid dark stained birch. The four legs in bracket style are also in the darker stained birch wood. The top, sides and the front moldings are in a veneered birch wood with a beautiful, flamed wood grain. The dimensions of the piece make it a versatile design, suitable for usage in a variety of rooms. It can function as a pair of small sideboards or as a low commode/chest of drawers. The pair is in very good, restored condition with minor wear consistent with age and use.
