Bench for Casa Batllo, designed after a model by Antoni Gaudi. Manufactured in Barcelona by BD. Sculpted solid varnished oak. The model by Gaudii´ was designed early 20th century; this model was produced, circa 2000 In good original condition, with minor wear consistent with age and use, preserving a beautiful patina. Antoni Gaudi´ (1852-1926) was a Spanish Catalan architect from Reus and the best known practitioner of Catalan Modernism. Gaudi´’s works reflect an individualized and distinctive style. Most are located in Barcelona, including his magnum opus, the Sagrada Fami´lia. Gaudi´’s work was influenced by his passions in life: architecture, nature, and religion. [3] Gaudi´ considered every detail of his creations and integrated into his architecture such crafts as ceramics, stained glass, wrought ironwork forging and carpentry. He also introduced new techniques in the treatment of materials, such as trencadi´s which used waste ceramic pieces.
